The ninth International Day of Yoga will be celebrated across the globe tomorrow. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the Yoga Day programme at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The theme of Yoga Day this year is -‘Yoga For Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.

PM Modi has, in his Mann Ki Baat programme on All India Radio, urged listeners many times over the years to take up Yoga for their physical and mental well-being.

In his recent Mann Ki Baat address, the Prime Minister had said the 21st of June is a great opportunity for people who are not connected with Yoga to take up the practice.

In his address at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested an International Day of Yoga on 21st June. It received support of 177 countries and since then International Day of Yoga is being celebrated across the globe in every country.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) also proclaimed 21st June as the International Day of Yoga in their resolution. Since 2015, the International Day of Yoga has evolved into a mass movement for health, around the world.

The practice of Yoga helps in improving metabolism, maintaining proper Blood circulation, and reducing vulnerability to various ailments like respiratory disorders, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.

Breathing exercises in Yoga such as Pranayama helps a person relieve stress and anxiety. Yoga was very beneficial during the pandemic as it helped people recover from post covid complications.

Regular practice of yoga helps people maintain a stress-free, balanced healthy lifestyle which is the need of the hour.

Yoga is a matter of pride for India, as Yoga is an integral part of Indian cultural and spiritual heritage. Yoga is an ancient science of wisdom for living a healthy life and by adopting it in daily life, one can make life easy and simple.

Realizing the spread and importance of yoga world over, the Government has included “attending a short term yoga programme” in the list of permissible activities under the tourist and e-tourist visas.

In Uttar Pradesh, preparations are in full swing for organising yoga programs on the occasion of international yoga day tomorrow. The state government is already celebrating Yoga week which started from 15th June.

The main yoga function will be held in the premises of the famous Kashi Vishwanath corridor of Varanasi, where more than 1000 people will take part in Yoga program.

Aayush Minister of State Dayashankar Mishra Dayalu told AIR news that state government is going to celebrate international yoga day on large scale.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the state ministers to participate in activities on International Yoga Day on June 21 in the districts they have been given charge of.

In Gujarat, the celebration of International Yoga Day will be held tomorrow in the state under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel at Surat. Around one lakh 25 thousand citizens will join yoga practice at one place.

This year, Yoga Day will be celebrated on One-Earth-One-Health theme. Various programs have been organized on the occasion of Yoga Day across the state by the state government.

Youth Services and Culture Minister Hrsh Sanghvi said that more than one lakh citizens have registered in just one day on the online link released on 18th to join the program in Surat.

Haryana Home, Health and AYUSH Minister Anil Vij has said that the state-level programme on International Yoga Day will be organized in Panipat, while district-level programmes will be held in 21 districts and block-level programmes in 121 blocks.

Shri Vij was presiding over the meeting of all the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police of the State to review the arrangements of International Yoga Day programmes through video conferencing at Chandigarh.

He said that this time the tagline of Yoga Day is “Har Ghar-Aangan Yoga”, according to which the state government is also setting up yoga shalas in the state. He said that the government want to take Yoga to every village of the state.

During the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary in Health and Family Welfare Department, Dr. G. Anupama informed that on Yoga Day, the address of the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister will be telecast live and there will be a 45-minute yoga session in all the districts and block levels of the state.

Earlier, Director General of Ayush Department Dr. Saket Kumar informed that this time the photos and videos of Yoga Day can be uploaded through the “Bhuvan Yoga” app.
