A bus carrying 49 Indian tourists was attacked near Kathmandu amid ongoing political unrest in Nepal, leaving several passengers injured, according to reports. The incident took place as the bus was returning from the revered Pashupatinath Temple.

The driver of the bus claimed that the vehicle was ambushed by a mob of protesters who blocked the road and began pelting it with stones. Despite women and elderly people being on board, the attackers continued their assault, causing chaos and panic among the passengers.

Local authorities responded swiftly to the scene. Several injured tourists were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while others were flown back to India via special aircraft arranged by the Indian Embassy in Nepal.

The attack occurred during heightened tensions in Nepal, sparked by widespread Gen-Z-led protests that have resulted in violent clashes and a rapidly evolving political crisis. The unrest has also raised concerns about the safety of foreign nationals, especially pilgrims and tourists.

One Indian-origin woman caught in the violence took to social media to share her ordeal, pleading with India’s Ministry of External Affairs for immediate evacuation assistance.

The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu is reportedly in close coordination with local authorities to ensure the safety of Indian nationals currently in Nepal. The Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

As the situation remains volatile, travelers are being advised to exercise caution and stay updated through official advisories.
