In Tripura, a minor commits suicide after being raped; a case has been filed.

Police claimed on Saturday that a minor girl committed herself roughly 24 hours after she was reportedly raped by a neighbour of her maternal uncle in a village in Tripura.

The accused has been known to flee the country.

Despite the fact that the incident occurred in the first week of November, the minor's mother filed the complaint on Friday late evening.

The deceased, 16, was raped by one Sourav Shil, 21, on November 4 night at his home in a village in Dhalai district, according to the complainant, when the former was visiting her maternal uncle's home in the same area.

On November 6, the minor drank poison and was taken to a local hospital before being referred to Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) hospital, where she died.

"We registered a case based on the complaint. The delay happened due to post-crematorium rituals of the deceased. We have started our investigation," said a police official of Kamalpur Police Station.

After the minor's death, a member of the district's Child Line reported they met the parents.

"We are waiting for a reply from Child Welfare Committee on the issue. After that, we will decide our next step," said the member.
