India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rain in Uttarakhand for today, while an orange alert has been issued for tomorrow. IMD said, thunderstorm and heavy rainfall activity are likely over Uttarakhand, West UP and Haryana today as a result of Western Disturbance's interaction with low-level easterlies.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has alerted the police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) following IMD's alert. He has directed that police, SDRF and other concerned personnel should be kept on high alert at sensitive places. Mr Dhami said that special care should be taken on the Char Dham Yatra route.
In view of the heavy rainfall warning, all schools in Uttarkashi district will remain closed today.
