Falling prey to a hacker, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official Twitter account was hacked and then secured quickly by the authorities.

While the account was restored shortly after, a tweet promoting cryptocurrency had already been shared from the handle and was later deleted. The matter was escalated to Twitter and the account has been immediately secured. During the time the account was hacked, a tweet has sent falsely saying that India had officially adopted Bitcoin as the legal tender which also included a link to a sketchy website and said new Delhi had purchased some bitcoins and was planning to distribute them among nation's residents.

The Prime Minister Modi's office immediately tweeted that the Modi's account had been fully secured and any tweets shared during that period "must be ignored". Several Twitter users, including political leaders and activists shared screenshots of those tweets from PM Modi's account which claimed "India has officially adopted bitcoin as legal tender" and had made several memes. Many users were quick to claim the government though there was confusion about the news itself, as the PM's affinity towards delivering shock news at dramatic hours.
