On Wednesday, an Indian Air Force chopper carrying Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat crashed in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. General Bipin Rawat along with his wife and 14 other officers were on board. Out of which 11 are dead.

CDS Bipin Rawat rushed to Wellington Military Hospital in serious condition. Nothing concrete has out in this matter yet. Government has given order of inquiry. The security forces near Bipin Rawat's home in Delhi is tightened. 

PM Modi is informed of the matter. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will present this incident in the parliament. 

Rajnath Singh is soon to leave for Coonoor, Tamil Nadu.

The Mi-17V5 is a Russian-made military transport version of the Mi-8 helicopter, which is utilized for troop deployment, arms transfer, firefighting, patrol, and search and rescue missions. It is regarded as one of the world's most advanced military transport helicopters.

In 2008, Russia's Rosoboronexport agreed to deliver 80 Mi-17V5 helicopters to the Indian government, which was completed in 2013. The Indian Air Force has inked new agreements for the delivery of 71 Mi-17V5 helicopters.

The Mi-17V5 medium-lifter can fly in adverse environments, including tropical and maritime climates, as well as deserts.
