The 48th GST Council meeting is underway in New Delhi. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is chairing the meeting.
Minister of State for Finance, States and UTs Finance Ministers and Senior officers from Union Governments and States are attending the meeting.
The meeting is expected to decide on a number of issues like decriminalisation of offences under the GST law, setting up appellate tribunals and mechanisms to curb tax evasion in pan masala and gutkha businesses.
The GST Council will also consider a report of tax officers and give clarity on the rate applicability in certain goods and services.
