On January 18, the Enforcement Directorate launched raids on Channi's nephew, Bhupinder Singh Honey, and several others. According to sources, "Several incriminating documents, mobile phones, over Rs 10 crore cash, gold worth above Rs 21 lakh and a Rolex watch worth Rs 12 lakh were seized during the searches conducted at the premises of Honey as well as other accused persons."

Media reports on Friday morning said the Enforcement Directorate arrested Honey from Jalandhar. He was arrested on charges of money laundering.

Channi has been accused of involvement in illegal sand mining by the BJP and AAP. However, he refuted the allegations and accused the Narendra Modi government of carrying out a witch-hunt to coincide with the Punjab Assembly polls.

Interestingly, Punjab Congress unit chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, a rival of Channi, had defended him over the issue.
