A Central team will visit Bihar today to assess the damages caused by the recent floods in the state. A six member team led by Joint Secretary in Home Ministry RK Singh will visit flood-affected districts of the state and submit its report to the Union Government. The team will hold discussions with top officials of the State Government.

Meanwhile, the flood situation continues to be grim in 24 districts including Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Katihar Bhagalpur, Khagaria, East Champaran and West Champaran districts. Over 30 lakh people spread over two thousand villages are reeling under the impact of flood.

The floods have so far claimed 53 lives in the state. In all, 29 teams of NDRF and SDRF have been pressed into relief and rescue operations. Over two lakh 20 thousand people have been shifted to safer places. Vehicular traffic has been disrupted at several places.

Rail traffic on Darbhanga- Samastipur section remained suspended on the seventh consecutive day following inundation of railway track. 14 trains have been cancelled and 13 trains diverted on alternative routes. Several rivers including Ganga, Bagmati, Kosi and Gandak are maintaining rising trend and are flowing above danger mark.
