C.P. Radhakrishnan on Friday took oath as the 15th Vice President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, former President Ram Nath Kovind, Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
Radhakrishnan, the NDA nominee, was elected on September 9 after defeating opposition candidate B. Sudershan Reddy with 452 votes against 300. A veteran BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, he earlier served as Governor of Maharashtra and Jharkhand, and represented Coimbatore in the Lok Sabha.
After the ceremony, the new Vice President paid tribute at Rajghat and other memorials before assuming charge as Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
