The revised pension will benefit widowed women, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities, with the enhanced amount effective from July 2025. Beneficiaries will receive the pension on the 10th of each month, directly into their bank accounts.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Nitish Kumar wrote:

"I am happy to inform you that under the Social Security Pension Scheme, widowed women, elderly and disabled people will now get a pension of ₹1100 instead of ₹400 every month."

According to the Chief Minister, the move will benefit over 1.09 crore beneficiaries (1,09,69,255 people) across the state.

The timing of the announcement is seen as politically significant, as Bihar gears up for Assembly elections by the end of 2025.
