Bhagwan Birsa Munda's birthday declared as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a museum devoted to tribal independence hero Birsa Munda in Ranchi, Jharkhand's capital, through video conference on Monday, and announced that his birth anniversary will be honoured as the 'Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas.'

"Nation decided that during 'amrit kaal' of independence, tribal traditions and its tales of gallantry will be given even more grand identity. The historic decision has been taken that November 15 - the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda - will be celebrated as 'Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas'" the PM said in his inaugural speech.

The Prime Minister stated that he has spent a significant portion of his life with tribal brothers and sisters, as well as children, and has witnessed their joys and sorrows, everyday lives, and basic needs. "So, today is also an emotional day for me personally," PM Modi said on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas.

The PM added that due to the "firm willpower of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Jharkhand came into existence. It was he who had formed separate Ministry of Tribal Affairs & connected tribal interests to policies of the nation. On Jharkhand foundation day today, I also pay tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee.''

The Prime Minister had already paid respect to Birsa Munda, a famous tribal freedom fighter. PM Modi also greeted inhabitants of Jharkhand, which was founded in 2000 on the occasion of Munda's birth anniversary. The prime minister expressed his intention for Lord Birsa Munda's land to progress in its development journey, noting that the state has a distinct historical character and culture.

Munda, according to PM Modi, has always fought to defend tribal rights and give the battle for independence a boost. In a tweet, he stated that his service to the country will be remembered forever.

Munda's birth anniversary will be commemorated as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, according to the government. Born in 1875 in the undivided Bihar tribal zone, he rallied tribals against British colonial rule and conversion activities before dying in Ranchi jail in 1900.
