According to figures published by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Pakistanis account for almost 70% of all citizenship petitions pending in India (MHA).

Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said that out of the 10,635 applicants who applied for Indian citizenship until December 14, 2021, 7,306 were from Pakistan, according to a response to a question from Member of Parliament Abdul Wahab on Wednesday about the details of current applicants for Indian citizenship, including the data of their current citizenship.

Afghanistan had 1,152 applications pending, followed by 428 from Stateless, 223 from Sri Lanka and the United States, 189 from Nepal, and 161 from Bangladesh, according to the minister.

As many as ten Chinese citizens applied for Indian citizenship. The MHA has the authority to give Indian citizenship after a thorough examination and verification of the application.
