2001 Parliament attack had claimed nine lives, which included eight security personnel and one gardener while several others sustained injuries. The incident which brought India and Pakistan to brink of war. Today, on the 20th anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack on Monday, President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior Union ministers paid tributes to the people who lost their lives in the incidents.

The attack took place around 40 minutes after Parliament was adjourned and about 100 members were present in building. Five heavily armed terrorists belonging to terror outfit stormed the Parliament complex in New Delhi and opened fire indiscriminately.

The Lok Sabha was in session at the time of the instrusions, but the houses has been adjourned. Several government officials were present inside the building, including former Home Minister LK Advani and former Minister of state for Defence Harin Pathak. The attack lasted for approximately 30 minutes, and all five terrorists were gunned down outside the building by security forces. The attack on such a secured building located in the national capital was unthinkable for the country.
