A team of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on April 12 caught a female passenger at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International airport allegedly with 5.9kg of heroin. According to officials, the contraband seized would be worth Rs 42 crore in the international market.

According to officials, specific intelligence was developed by the agency after which they kept watch at the airport. A Zimbabwean woman who had arrived from Abu Dhabi was stopped and her baggage was searched.

"Officials found a false bottom and a cavity inside the bag, in which four plastic bags filled with a brown powder were found. A team of the forensic science laboratory (FSL) confirmed that the substance was heroin. In all, 5.97kg of heroin was found. The woman has been apprehended under provisions of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway," said an official.

Officials said in the past couple of months, seven nationals of African countries have been caught for drug trafficking and contraband worth Rs 150 crore has been seized.
