According to a press release issued by Sumit Thakur – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, both the cases happened on 14th December, 2021 in two different trains. The first chain pulling happened in Coach No. S6 of Train No. 19484 Barauni – Ahmedabad Express near Udhna Yard. Similarly, in another case, the chain pulling took place in D2 coach of Train No. 22660 Yog Nagari Rishikesh – Kochuveli Express between Kosad & Utran stations. In both the cases, the delay caused was more than 10 minutes. RPF apprehended the mischiefs in swift action in both the cases and FIR has been lodged at Surat against the person accused in the first case & at Ankleshwar in the second case.

Thakur added that the facility of alarm chain pulling (ACP) is to be used only in cases of extreme emergency. It has been observed that many times passengers pull the alarm chain without any emergency or to deboard/board at stations where the train does not have stoppage. Misuse of the facility of ACP is a criminal act and a menace that results in late running of trains and adversely affects all passengers in the train. This also affects the operations of other trains as well. Section 141 of The Railway Act deals with the misuse of ACP cases and states that when a passenger, without reasonable and sufficient cause, makes use of the alarm chain, the punishment shall be imprisonment for three months.
