Alok Kansal – General Manager of Western Railway conducted a surprise inspection of Mumbai suburban section and travelled by local train on 28th August, 2021. He interacted with the commuters for their feedback and suggestions.

According to a press release issued by Sumit Thakur – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, GM Kansal started his inspection from Churchgate wherein he interacted with the Boot Polish Wallah, enquired about their welfare as well as about their vaccination status. GM was pleased to know that they were all vaccinated and majority of them had got vaccinated at the camp set up especially for coolies, shoe-shine boys, station staff,etc at Mumbai Central station.

Thereafter, GM boarded Virar bound local train and inspected the various aspects of passenger amenities and convenience available particularly in Second Class coaches. During, the inspection he took stock of the CCTV surveillance system in local trains, especially, in ladies coaches. GM was apprised that CCTVs have been provided in 139 ladies coaches and 50 general coaches while the work is in progress for the remaining coaches.

Kansal instructed the concerned authorities to display of RPF Helpline No. 139 to bring about awareness among passengers incase of emergencies. He also instructed that strict action should be initiated against the unauthorized stickers pasted. During his inspection, he also interacted with the commuters, checked their authority of travel, enquired about their problems and guided them accordingly. He appealed them to follow Covid Appropriate Behaviour and insisted on always wearing masks at public places. The commuters were happy by the gesture and provided their positive feedback.

Thakur informed that GM Kansal alighted at Nalasopara station and conducted inspection of a tea stall and checked the Medical Certification of canteen staff, Expiry date of products, quality of food, compared the new rate card with the rate card displayed, No Bill No Payment board. He directed the concerned officers to improve the environment of work places, PF surface. Kansal, thereafter, visited the EMU Car shed at Virar for inspection. A presentation detailing the various infrastructural developments in all the three EMU Carsheds, holding of EMU rakes, various safety aspects of train running being undertaken and capacity augmentation of EMU services was apprised and discussed.

Later, GM inspected the Electrical Training Center (ETC) and interacted with the ongoing running class of Junior Engineers (JE) & Motormen which took them by surprise. He also released two training books. He also conducted inspection of Uttam Rake & reviewed the passenger amenities in the rake such as quality of seats, CCTV system provided in the coaches. Further, the EMU Simulator and Bogie Drop Table (BDT) was also inspected alongwith its working. Shri Kansal inaugurated "AROGYA VATIKA" at the Carshed, which has been developed with medicinal & herbal plants. GM announced awards for the good initiative works, upkeep of the EMU shed.
