Two teams of 6th Battalion based in Vadodara and currently stationed at Rajkot and Junagadh were dispatched with the necessary equipment and tools to contribute in rescue operation of the industrial disaster caused by the breakage of the chimney of the cement factory in Ranavav taluka of Porbandar district.
Battalion Deputy Commander Anupam said that one of the team reached the spot on Thursday night and joined other agencies in the rescue operation after getting preliminary information. Local troops at the time had earlier rescued the two injured.
The joint rescue operation lasted till early dawn in which 3 bodies were recovered from the rubble besides rescuing 3 alive from the spot.
The accident was mainly to remove the heavy debris from the tank and find the trapped ones. The operation was completed early in the morning after the injured were rushed to the hospital.
