The mayor of Vadodara, Deputy Mayor and officials of the Archaeological Survey of India visited the site today to discuss the restoration work of the roof of Laheripura gate in the historic Chardarwaja area in the heart of the city. A part of the ceiling came down couple of days ago and the officials visited the site to review the situation. It is to be mentioned here that 75 lakhs were given to ASI for the restoration work by the corporation.

Situated in the midst of city, the Lehripura Darwaja, is the most ornamented gate out of the four gates of the old city. Built in 1558, it served as the gateway to the old city and is situated in the vicinity of the Nyay Mandir. Remind people about the glorious past, the gate undergone restoration by the ASI to retain the glorious history of the gate.

However on Sunday night due to heavy rains in the city, a part of the roof of Lehripura gate collapsed in a short span of time after the restoration work by the ASI. On Wednesday Mayor Keyur Rokadia, Deputy Mayor and local councillor Nanda Joshi along with ASI officials visited the site and took stock of the situation.

"The restoration work is carried out by the ASI and after the visit we issued instructions to conduct the survey about the possible reasons for the damage. Moreover they will also investigate about why the part of roof fell down in just five years time. I told the ASI officials to prepare a report and complete the restoration work of this heritage structure," Said Keyur Rokadia Mayor Vadodara.
