Giving passengers some heart-stopping moments, the Pavagadh ropeway stopped working abruptly midway late on Friday evening for about 30 minutes.

The sensors of the ropeway detected abnormal movement of the cabins and stopped its movement automatically.

The ropeway was made later made functional again and the passengers were brought down safely.

The ropeway is used by several pilgrims to go from Maachi on the hill to almost the top of the mountain where the Mahakali temple is located.

On Friday, at around 7.30pm, the ropeway cabins had only 25 to 30 passengers coming from the temple towards Maachi when the incident took place.

The ropeway came to a halt when there were passengers travelling in six or seven cabins.
