Ukai dam in Surat 76% full, water level rises in Tapi river

Due to the heavy inflow of the rainwater from upper catchment areas in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, the Ukai dam in Surat is 76 per cent full, said officials on Tuesday.

According to the details shared by Ukai dam authorities, the water level in the dam has reached 334.91 feet against the danger level of 345 feet.

To prevent overflooding of the dam, the authorities on Monday night started discharging 82,000 cusecs of rainwater which subsequently reached the Tapi river by Tuesday morning.

Owing to the huge discharge of water from Ukai dam, the Tapi river is flowing in full stretch from both banks.
