Two youths were arrested in Vadodara on Wednesday for allegedly throwing eggs at a Ganesh idol during installation preparations at the Manjalpur Ganesh Mandal. The incident occurred around 2:30 AM in the Panigate Madar Market area, just as the idol was about to be placed at the designated site.
According to eyewitnesses, a group of about 10 to 15 people was peacefully carrying the idol when eggs were suddenly hurled at it from nearby buildings. Witnesses also reported that immediately after the incident, the lights in the buildings from where the eggs were allegedly thrown were turned off, creating confusion and temporary panic in the area.
Police responded swiftly to the scene to prevent any escalation or communal unrest. After preliminary investigation and witness accounts, the police arrested two individuals identified as Sufiyan Mansuri and Shah Nawaz. In an unusual move, the police paraded the accused in their locality with their hands tied with ropes. During the parade, both individuals reportedly apologised publicly for their actions.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine whether others were involved and to ensure peace is maintained in the area. Senior police officials have also appealed to the public to remain calm and not share unverified information on social media, urging restraint to prevent the incident from triggering further tensions.
