Two medical students, including a girl studying at Baroda Medical College, who had gone for a picnic on the banks of Mahisagar river near Lachanpur village in Savli taluka, drowned on Saturday. While another student was rescued by locals. Early this morning, a group of 12 medical students from Baroda Medical College went for a picnic on the banks of Mahi river passing near Lachanpur. But the picnic enthusiasm of the students turned to mourning after two medical students drowned inside the river.

As per available details a group of 12 students studying at Baroda Medical College in Vadodara had gone for a picnic early in the morning on the banks of Mahisagar river passing near Lachanpur village in Savli taluka. Among the group that reached the river bank, some students including Siddhi Nimeshbhai Shah (age 20), Amogh Goyal (age 20) went for a swim in the river. Out of them three students including Siddhi Shah and Amogh Goyal, began to drown after reached in the deep waters of Mahi river.

The students shouting for help and local swimmers came rushing inside and saved one, While Siddhi Shah and Amogh Goyal went missing in deep water. After a struggle of about an hour the local swimmers pulled out both of them and send them to SSG hospital through 108 ambulance. However, both the drowned students died on the way before reached the hospital. It is known that deceased Siddhi Shah and Amogh Goyal were found living in the new medical hostel and studying in the third year of MBBS.

As per the information received, the fellow students tried first aid on Siddhi Shah and Amogh Goyal after they were rescued by local swimmers, but could not be saved. The deaths of Siddhi Shah and Amogh Goyal shocked everyone at Baroda Medical College and fellow students. A large number of fellow students of Siddhi Shah and Amogh Goyal reached the cold room of Sayaji Hospital.

It may be mentioned that many people have died due to drowning in the Mahisagar river passing near Lanchanpur village. The administration has also put up warning boards on the river banks not to go into deep water. Even so, people don't care and go inside and risked their lives.

Savli police also reached the hospital and postmortem of both bodies was carried out. They also informed the families of the deceased students and they also rushed to the hospital. A silence prevailed over the cries of the family members of the students. Savli police have registered a case of accidental death in connection with the incident.
