According to initial reports, the accident occurred when a white Kia Seltos, registered in Rajkot, veered off the road near Nabhoi village and crashed into the Narmada canal under unclear circumstances. Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The Gandhinagar Fire and Emergency Services were alerted at approximately 2:45 p.m. and launched a swift rescue operation. Divers, facing strong currents and limited visibility, managed to recover the bodies of two victims, one of whom was a young girl.
As of Tuesday evening, the search continues for the two other occupants who were believed to be in the vehicle at the time of the incident. Officials said the rescue operation is ongoing, with additional teams deployed along the canal's stretch in hopes of locating the missing individuals.
“This is a deeply tragic situation,” said an official from the fire department. “We are doing everything possible to locate the remaining victims despite the challenging conditions.”
Local police have cordoned off the area and are investigating the incident. Eyewitness accounts, dashcam footage (if available), and road conditions are all being reviewed as part of the inquiry.
Further updates are awaited as search efforts continue.
