A shocking accident occurred early this morning in Ahmedabad’s Jamalpur area, where a speeding garbage collection vehicle belonging to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) rammed into several pedestrians and vehicles. The incident resulted in the death of a 50-year-old man and injuries to at least seven others, including school children.
According to preliminary information, the AMC vehicle was moving at high speed when it struck 2 to 3 vehicles and several pedestrians near the Jamalpur area. Around 7 to 8 people were reportedly hit. One 50-year-old man died on the spot due to the impact, while seven others — including two school-going children — sustained serious injuries.
After the accident, local residents immediately alerted emergency services and arranged for the injured to be taken to a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, the driver attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by bystanders and handed over to the police.
Police have identified the driver as Rahul Parmar. He has been taken into custody, and the body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem. The family of the deceased has also been informed.
Initial investigations by the police have revealed that the driver did not possess a valid driving license. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area and conducting further inquiries to establish the full sequence of events.
Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine any lapses in vehicle operation or oversight by AMC.
