The Gujarat High Court has rejected a petition against the decision to set up a railway university on the site of Pratap Vilas Palace in Vadodara. The court rejected the petitioner's request for a stay of 6 weeks on the order.

The country's first railway university is being set up in Vadodara for the purpose of training officers. Earlier the officers had to go abroad for some training, however, now the Railway University will be set up in Vadodara and its work will be started. A petition was submitted by the petitioner that if the Railway University is built here, the tourism sector will be affected. The Gujarat government shows the palace in the Gujarat Tourism advertisement and there are many trees here inside and it will also be affected. However, the petitioner had sought a stay of 6 weeks against the order to apply to the Supreme Court. However, the court rejected the demand for a 6-week stay.

Advocate Archana Amin said that Pratap Vilas Palace is owned by Railways. There was opposition about building a university in the space in front of it. The reason for the protest was that the grandeur of the palace would be overshadowed by the construction of this university. But, this palace is not used for public. Earlier a restraining order was issued for the university. It was then re-surveyed and the space to build the university has been moved to the back, So that the palace will not have any obstacle now.

She further said that the petitioner had also sought a restraining order, but the court had rejected his application. Proceedings for the deemed university will now be taken up in the coming days.
