The 6th Battalion of National Disaster Relief Force i.e. NDRF is operating at Jarod near Vadodara and is equipped with state-of-the-art training and equipments for rescue of life and property in case of all kinds of natural calamities and accidents. This force maintains coordination with the Disaster Management Department of the State Government and performs effective rescue and relief operations in the event of a disaster. During the recent Tau Te hurricane disaster, the teams here provided effective services in the districts of South Gujarat and Saurashtra.

Mr. Anupam, Deputy Commander, 6th Battalion, Vadodara, said that, in consultation with the Disaster Management Department of the State Government, a total of 10 teams have been deployed in advance in 8 districts and two districts of Rajasthan. Each of these teams has 25 trained and skilled rescue personnel who have the skills to rescue and move people in disasters like hurricanes and floods, sheltering them in a safe place.

8 teams have been placed in advance in Surat, Valsad, Navsari, Somnath, Rajkot, Kutch, Junagadh and Morbi districts of the state. In times of disaster these teams will work in troubled areas as instructed by the State Emergency Operations Center. This is planned under precautionary measures.

The teams are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment such as disaster communications equipment, first aid kits, boats, life jackets, life buoys, concrete cutters for debris rescue, search equipment, and inflatable boats for flood rescue. Two teams have been deployed from Vadodara to Kota and Udaipur districts of Rajasthan.

In addition, the battalion has a system of reserve teams and new teams are formed as required by dividing the team members if required. Mr. Anupam says that they are always alert and equipped to save the people from calamity.
