Surat will be the first city in Gujarat to get a second police bhavan- a 12-storey building which consolidate all the police arms like Traffic personnel, officials of the cybercrime unit, and women’s wing, among other units of Surat Police.

The construction of the 12-storey building will be completed in the next one and half years, underlined Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut.

Surat Police Bhavan B is set to replace the old structures at the police headquarters in the Athwalines area, opposite the present Police Bhavan.

The space earlier had small offices, like a police mess, and dog squad units of Surat Police in a dilapidated state.

These have now been shifted. The e-groundbreaking ceremony for the second police bhavan was held in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patelduring the ‘Vikas Saptah’ celebrated last month.

Sources in Surat Police said the first and second floors of the new building will have cyber crime officials’ offices with separate technical team offices and a police department server room.

The third floor will have a women’s wing office with a counseling room and children’s play area.

The fourth floor will have four to six offices of the Deputy Commissioner of police offices with their staffers.

The fifth floor will have the headquarters of the Surat Traffic Police department and their top officials.

The sixth floor will have offices of the assistant commissioner of police officials economic offence wing among other units.

The seventh and eighth floors will have offices of the administration department.

The ninth floor will have computer training courses and other police training courses offices. The 10th, 11th, and 12th floors will have eight halls for conferences.

The contract to build the new police bhavan has been awarded to Ahmedabad-based Sankalp Infracon.

The built-up area of the multi-storeyed structure would be 12785 square meters, where the basement would be 2065 square meters, ground floor spread over 778 square meters and first floor over 1021 sq mts.

The second floor to eighth floor will have an area of 800 sq mt, and 11th and 12th floors space area will be of 787 and 818 sq mts respectively.
