A team of final-year mechanical engineering students of the Ahmedabad Government Polytechnic have designed an air cooler which chills the water on its own, enabling the appliance to blow chilled air into the room.

The air cooler mimics an airconditioner but costs just Rs 12,000.

The five-member team of final-year students that designed the appliance says the idea was to provide the experience of an AC to low-income households who cannot afford one.

The team was guided by Jigisha Patel, a teacher of mechanical engineering at the polytechnic, and consisted of Akshat Patel, Jatin Bhuva, Kishan Chaudhari, Neel Chovatiya and Harin Chudasama.

He added that their design has an inbuilt system to chill the water used in the cooler.
