Special court for CBI cases sentences Central Excise officer to 3 yrs of jail

The special judge for CBI cases in Ahmedabad sentenced Kishore Marotirao Ambavale, the then Superintendent of Central Excise (Range-IV, Division-II, Ahmedabad-I) to 3 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 1 lakh in a corruption case.

According to a statement from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the agency had registered a case against Ambavale on February 15, 2013, when he was holding the position.

The FIR alleged that the officer had demanded an illegal gratification of Rs 14,500 from the complainant as a reward, as he had processed monthly returns and documents for exports filed on behalf of a private company for seven months.

The accused accepted the illegal gratification and was arrested on February 16, 2013. Searches were conducted at his residential and official premises.

After completing the investigation, the CBI had filed a chargesheet on September 30, 2013.
