Even as the Southwest monsoon begins to retreat from several parts of the country, Gujarat continues to witness heavy rainfall, particularly affecting the Bhavnagar and Surat districts.

According to data from the State Emergency Operation Centre, Mahuva Taluka in Bhavnagar and Palsana Taluka in Surat recorded close to 3 inches of rain over the past 12 hours. Umarpada also saw around 2 inches during the same period. In total, 42 talukas across Gujarat reported rainfall on Monday.

Sagbara in Narmada district and parts of Bharuch received over an inch of rainfall as well. The unexpected showers are being attributed to a low-pressure system developing over the Bay of Bengal, which could bring more intense rainfall during the Navratri festivities.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several South Gujarat districts, including Bharuch, Narmada, Tapi, Navsari, and Valsad, warning of possible heavy downpours accompanied by thunderstorms and wind speeds of 30 to 40 km/h. Residents and Navratri event organisers are urged to stay alert over the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, light to moderate showers are also forecast for Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Panchmahal, and Chhotaudepur districts.
