Seven pilgrims from Jamnagar drowned in the Gomti River on Thursday morning. The group of youngsters included four men and three women. On witnessing them drowning, residents and the fire brigade rushed to the spot.
However, one young woman could not be saved and she lost her life in the incident, while six other pilgrims were rescued. The rescued individuals have been shifted to the hospital for treatment.
Notably, this is the third drowning incident in the past month in the Gomti River. Just three days ago, an elderly man drowned but was saved by security personnel.
While the Indian Meteorological Department has issued alerts, such serious lapses in safety are becoming frequent. At present, strong currents are being observed in the sea near Dwarka, and these currents extend into the Gomti River.
Pilgrims, often unaware of this, cross the safety bars and enter the river to take a holy dip. Unfortunately, this sometimes leads to tragic drowning incidents.
