The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic started in April 2021 which posed a challenge to the entire government machinery as compared to the initial outbreak.The department of health came under severe stress due to the second onslaught. During the month of May, the Commissionerate of Health, Medical Services, Medical Education & Research, Gujarat approached NCC Directorate, Gujarat for deployment of volunteer NCC cadets to augment the efforts of the Health Ministry.

Despite the challenging situation, many a cadets of the Gujarat NCC Directorate volunteered for this selfless task showing their commitment to the society. After receiving the sanction of the Director General NCC, fifteen volunteer cadets of 35 Gujarat Battalion NCC have been deployed with due precautions and Covid-19 protocols, to aid the district health authorities at Banaskantha district in talukas of Palanpur, Dantiwada and Deesa from 16 June 2021 onwards.

The Chief District Health Officer(CDHO), Banaskantha, Dr S M Dev has been highly appreciative of this step and personally interacted with the volunteer cadets. Tehsil Health Officers of concerned talukas have briefed cadets on the job ahead, which would be to assist in the vaccination registration process for 18-44 years age group. The volunteer effort has been deeply appreciated by citizens.
