The water level of the Sardar Sarovar (Narmada) Dam has risen to 136.04 meters, prompting authorities to release a large volume of water to manage the situation. On Friday, officials opened 23 radial gates of the dam, each raised to a height of 2.5 meters, discharging nearly 4.46 lakh cusecs of water through the River Bed Power House (RBPH) and the canal system.
As a precautionary measure, alerts have been issued to 27 villages in Vadodara, Bharuch, and Narmada districts that lie downstream of the river. Local administrations have been instructed to remain on high alert and ensure the safety of residents in low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, inflow from upstream sources has slightly reduced, with nearly 40,000 cusecs less water entering the dam in the afternoon, offering temporary relief. However, the situation remains critical as river levels continue to rise downstream.
At Bharuch’s Golden Bridge, the water level has already reached 26.83 feet, raising concerns of possible flooding in nearby areas. District officials are closely monitoring the situation and have urged villagers living along the riverbanks to stay alert and follow safety advisories.
Authorities emphasized that while the dam is operating within safe limits, continuous monitoring and timely water release are essential to prevent flooding in affected regions.
