Rs 800 crore cocaine seized near Gandhidham in Gujarat

In yet another major drug haul in Kutch district, the local police seized 80 kg of cocaine worth Rs 800 crore that was abandoned near the coast in Mithi Rohar village, some 30 km from the port town Gandhidham on Thursday.

Acting on specific information, the Kutch (east) police were patrolling the coast when they noticed several suspicious-looking packets scattered on the shore and some floating in the water.

There were 80 packets of one kg each, and forensic experts confirmed that they contained cocaine.

Sagar Bagmar, superintendent of police, Kutch (east), told sources that the recovery has confirmed the new modus operandi of international drug mafias wherein they don't directly hand over the consignment to the local receivers but abandon the stock at isolated places. The receiver's men pick them up.

Police are investigating to find out who was the consignee.

In the last two years, various agencies including the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), the Border Security Force (BSF), the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), and the local police, have seized several such consignments in the district that is close to Pakistan.

Last year too, heroin worth Rs 376 crore concealed inside fabric rolls was seized from a container at Mundra port.
