In a major crackdown on traffic violations, the Ahmedabad Traffic Police booked 9,377 drivers for wrong-side driving between July 17 and 22, 2025, collecting fines totaling over ₹1.59 crore. The operation is part of a focused campaign to curb dangerous driving practices in the city.
The S G Highway Zone-2 led the enforcement numbers with 1,564 challans and fines worth ₹27.76 lakh, followed closely by B Division with 1,440 cases and ₹23.47 lakh in penalties, and Zone M with 1,067 cases and ₹18.04 lakh collected.
The most notorious stretch for wrong-side driving was the Vaishnodevi–Pakwan Crossroads corridor, followed by Vadaj and Ranip areas. Officials noted that auto drivers made up 90% of the violators, with two-wheeler riders being the second-largest group.
In addition to financial penalties, 133 vehicles were detained, the most from E Division (54), followed by J Division (17) and G Division (12).
Authorities also arrested 113 individuals for serious or repeat violations. M Division recorded the highest number of arrests at 23, followed by K Division with 20.
N N Chaudhary, Joint Commissioner of Traffic, emphasized the gravity of the issue:
“Wrong-side driving is not a minor offence—it is a lethal act of negligence. This campaign aims to instil discipline and accountability among road users.”
The drive will continue in the coming weeks, with plans to intensify enforcement using CCTV surveillance and joint task forces across high-risk zones, particularly in accident-prone corridors.
