As COVID-19 cases rise across India and the world, a one-day-old newborn has tested positive for COVID-19.

Interestingly, the baby’s mother has tested negative after childbirth, although she was COVID-positive at the time of delivery.

The baby, currently underweight, has been admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for observation.

Currently, two COVID-19 patients are undergoing treatment at Sola Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. One of them is the newborn, and the other is a 23-year-old woman. Both patients are under close medical observation.

In another concerning development, an 8-month-old baby has tested positive for COVID-19 at Asarwa Civil Hospital.

The baby, who is facing multiple health complications, has been placed on oxygen support. Besides this infant, two more patients are being treated for COVID-19 at Asarwa Civil.

According to the latest data, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Gujarat has surged to 265 on Friday—a twofold increase over the past three days.

Fortunately, only 11 of these patients have required hospitalisation, while 254 are recovering at home under medical supervision.

As of Thursday, Ahmedabad accounts for the highest number of COVID-19 patients in Gujarat, with 145 active cases.

Of these, five patients are currently hospitalised—three at Asarwa Civil Hospital, including a 44-year-old man, a 67-year-old woman, and an 8-month-old girl. The remaining two— a one-day-old baby and a 23-year-old woman—are being treated at Sola Civil Hospital.

In other parts of Gujarat, Rajkot Municipal Corporation had 23 active cases, Jamnagar 11, and Surat 9.

Additionally, Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation has reported 7 cases, while Kutch and Mehsana each have 6. Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation has 5 cases, and Banaskantha, rural Bhavnagar, Junagadh, and Kheda districts have 2 cases each.

All positive samples are being sent to Gandhinagar for genome sequencing to identify the variant involved.

Health authorities maintain that the situation remains under control, but doctors advise anyone showing symptoms to get tested promptly
