The newborn baby girl who was found in a well in Bhe village of Garbada taluka of Dahod district on Thursday died during treatment on Friday.
It has also come to light that the baby was born to the granddaughter of the complainant who claimed of finding the infant in the well near his house.
The newborn girl was rushed to the Zydus Hospital in Dahod for treatment where, despite doctors' efforts, died on Friday.
Hospital sources said that the malnourished baby had severe infection and that her chances of survival were grim.
Police investigations have, meanwhile, revealed that the baby was born to a 19-year-old girl, who was the granddaughter of the man who had registered an offence regarding the newborn girl found inside the dry well.
Garbada police sub-inspector J L Patel said that the mother of the baby girl is also under treatment and that further investigations are being conducted to identify every person that was involved in the incident. The police are holding the grandfather and the infant's mother as prime suspects in the case.
