A lioness has undergone successful surgery at Sayajibaug in Vadodara city. The lion was injured on the left side of the face near the jaw and injury spreads due to scratching by her paws which raised concern among the zoo authorities. Zoo curator Pratyush Patankar said, after treatment for last 15 days, the female lion is recovering and also eat the natural diet.

The lioness was found injured on the left side of her beard on November 3 at Sayajibaug zoo. The dressing of her wound is started as soon as it came to the notice of the Zoo Authority. The lioness was kept in a separate cage and dressed for 4-5 days, but there was no improvement in her condition. The infection spreads due to scratching with her paw. Later it was decided to perform the surgery as her health was deteriorating.

"After we came to know about the injury, thr lioness was kept in a separate zoo on injectable medicines, antibiotics for three days. However with no improvement, a team of specialist doctors from Anand Veterinary College and a team from Sayajibaug performed minor surgery. She was then kept on glucose, saline, supplements in unconscious state and then later on liquid diet after the lioness gain consciousness. It was again a concern as she stopped eating after the surgery. However, she started eating from Thursday which gives a positive sign," said Pratyush Patankar.
