The Gaekwad Haveli police on Tuesday filed a complaint against a woman and others for thrashing an unidentified woman.

Behrampura resident Javed Shaikh, who sells vegetables for a living, said in his FIR with Gaekwad Haveli police that he spotted another vegetable vendor, Munni Shaikh, and others beating a woman.

"Around 30 persons were thrashing and abusing the woman who was in her 40s," said Javed, who, along with other vegetable vendors, rescued the woman from the mob.

The woman suffered injuries in the attack and was taken to Civil hospital in Asarwa for treatment.

Javed said in the FIR that Munni had threatened to kill the woman if she ever returned to the area.

Gaekwad Haveli police said that rumours of child lifting had spread in the area.

People presumed that the woman, a beggar who roamed in Jamalpur, was a child lifter and attacked her.
