Assistant professor Dr. Sarjoo Patel, teaching assistant Fatema Dahodwala and PhD student Khyati Trivedi of Faculty of Family and Community Sciences in The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda has invented a new design of an INDOOR DISTANT SEATING keeping in mind the corona guideline of safe distancing. They get the patent certificate for their design from the concerned department.

Corona has taught everyone the importance of their health and also to follow the government guidelines for their own as well as safety of others. Working on the same thought, the three Dr. Sarjoo Patel, Fatema Dahodwala and Khyati Trivedi invented the new design of an INDOOR DISTANT SEATING consists of seating and storage facility along with hooks for hanging.

"The chairs are designed with 1 meter distance between them keeping in mind the corona guideline of gap between two persons. The chair has cushioned seat and back for providing comfort in lower back and neck to the user. The material used for the construction of seating is aluminium which can be sanitised and washed. It took them six months to design the chair set, " Said Dr. Sarjoo Patel.

Aluminium is powder coated with black and silver colour. The cushioned seat and back is made up of foam and rexine. The hooks provided is of Mild-Steel (MS) with powder coating finish. The materials used in this design are easy to clean and sanitize. The unique feature of this design is to maintain social distancing guidelines in the context of COVID-19 Pandemic.

Dr. Sarjoo further added that during COVID-19 times this piece of furniture can be utilised for maintaining social distance having a little deep space with hooks in between for keeping belongings which can be used to place bags, bottles. They can be kept indoors, in clinics, schools, hotels, pubic places and others. In future post COVID-19 pandemic the space can be covered and can be used as an extra seating and also can be used as an area of plantation by placing pots or decorative articles.
