The accused had arrived on Air Asia flight FD-144 from Don Mueang Airport, Bangkok. Acting on specific intelligence, AIU officers intercepted the passenger upon arrival and subjected his luggage to intensive screening.
During the inspection, officials uncovered 24 vacuum-sealed, airtight plastic packets concealed within the baggage. The greenish, lumpy substance inside was confirmed through field testing to be hydroponic marijuana — a potent, high-grade variant of cannabis cultivated in controlled environments using nutrient-rich water instead of soil.
The entire quantity was seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The passenger has been arrested, and further legal proceedings are underway.
Customs sources indicate that hydroponic marijuana is increasingly being trafficked into India due to its high potency and demand among urban recreational users. Investigators suspect this seizure may be linked to a larger drug trafficking syndicate operating between Southeast Asia and India.
Authorities have intensified surveillance and investigations to trace the broader network behind the smuggling attempt.
