The city civic body sealed 2,731 properties for non-payment of tax in the past 15 days.

A statement from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) tax and revenue department said they sealed properties of owners whose pending property tax exceeded Rs 50,000.

The civic body has prepared a list of about 50,000 such properties where the tax dues are exceeding Rs 50,000. The civic body has sealed 7,704 properties so far this financial year.

“The tax department has launched tax rebate incentive schemes for taxpayers. Many people have still not paid their dues, so we are taking strict action against them. These property owners have not paid their taxes despite being issued multiple notices. If they do not pay their dues even after their properties have been sealed, the civic body will confiscate and auction them off,” said Jainik Vakil, chairman of the AMC’s revenue committee.
