The Gujarat anti-terrorist squad (ATS) on Thursday seized 30.6kg of heroin, worth Rs 217 crore, from a house in Khanderi on the outskirts of Rajkot.
Investigators later apprehended a Nigerian man from Uttamnagar in New Delhi in connection with the case.
Acting on an intelligence input, a Gujarat ATS team raided a house near Shreeji Gaushala in Khanderi village of Paddhari taluka in Rajkot district, and seized three packets, weighing around 10kg each.
The packets had a label on them suggesting that they were supposed to be delivered to the Nigerian man, sources said.
Special public prosecutor Sanjay Vora told the court that the consignment was sent by a man named Anwar from Pakistan.
It was to be received by a man named Babloo in Rajkot, but he did not turn up to take delivery.
ATS caught Nwobgo, who was supposed to take the final delivery, but the other accused Anwar and Babloo are still at large.
Vora said that the ATS wanted to interrogate Nwobgo thoroughly to know the exact source of the drugs and who the sender from abroad was.
ATS demanded that Nwobgo be remaded in custody for 14 days and the court granted police his custody for 12 days.
ATS officers said they will also probe if only 31kg heroin was delivered from abroad or was there a bigger consignment with portions delivered to others as well.
