He removed the designation and his Twitter bio now says he is a social and political activist.
This triggered widespread speculation that Patel has quit the party.
Congress party leaders, however, clarified that Patel has not left the party.
Congress leaders added that Hardik Patel has not tendered his resignation from the party.
