In a joint operation, a team of cybercrime cops and Gujarat University police on Tuesday arrested a peon working at the Gujarat University for his alleged involvement in the missing answer sheets case.

The accused, Sanjay Damor, 26, a contract employee at the GU, was caught from Umber Tekra village in Santrampur taluka of Mahisagar district.

The answer sheets of 14 fourth-year BSc Nursing students went missing in July.

Sources alleged that Damor stole the answer sheets at the behest of two former student leaders Sunny Chaudhary and Amit Singh. Both are on the run.

The answer sheets of the exam held on July 10 were kept in the locker room of the botany department in the presence of a coordinator.

Fourteen of those answer sheets went missing after which Gujarat University police recorded the statements of 14 students and learnt about the alleged involvement of Chaudhary in the case.

Police said Chaudhary allegedly took Rs 50,000 from each student to help them get their answer sheets out of the locker room.

As instructed, Damor stole the answer sheets and gave them to Chaudhary who took them to Singh's office in GU.

The duo then wrote the correct answers in the answer sheets and gave them back to Damor who put them back in the locker room.
