Heavy rainfall over the past 48 hours has severely disrupted railway traffic in central Gujarat, particularly affecting the Vadodara division of Western Railway (WR).
On Tuesday, 56 trains were cancelled due to significant waterlogging at three key locations, including Bajwa and Ranoli in Vadodara. Additionally, 15 trains were short-terminated, and 43 trains were diverted to alternate routes.
Notable cancellations include the Rajkot-Mumbai Hapa Duronto Express, the Karnavati Double Decker, the Ahmedabad-Howrah Express, the Gujarat Superfast Express, and the Jamnagar Humsafar Express.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red alert’ for several districts in Gujarat, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next five days.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Tuesday advised residents to avoid areas prone to waterlogging and exercise extreme caution while traveling.
In Vadodara, meanwhile, electricity has been turned off in some areas owing to waterlogging. As a precaution, district administrations have announced the closure of schools and in the affected areas on Tuesday.
The red alert is in effect for the Saurashtra region, including Kutch, Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Tapi, Navsari, and Valsad. In the latest weather forecast by IMD, thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are likely over Kutch, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Porbandar and Rajkot.
Thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected in several areas including Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Surat, Navsari, Morbi and Valsad.
