Gujarat Police join hands with MapmyIndia to provide real-time traffic alerts, accident zones

In a step towards improving road safety and traffic management across the state, Gujarat Police have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the indigenous navigation platform MapmyIndia (Mappls app).

The collaboration aims to integrate real-time traffic intelligence, accident-prone zone alerts, and on-ground policing inputs into the app for the benefit of commuters.

Working under the guidance of DGP Vikas Sahay, the State Traffic Branch finalised the agreement to enable MapmyIndia to support Gujarat’s evolving traffic management needs.

As part of the partnership, MapmyIndia has introduced new features in its application based on data provided by the State Traffic Branch.

Users will now receive alerts on black spots, accident-prone stretches, speed-limit information, and real-time traffic advisories alongside regular navigation.

Critical datasets such as dark stretches, potential danger zones, and high-risk routes have already been integrated into the app.

Under the MoU, Gujarat Police will share daily, real-time traffic updates with MapmyIndia.

This includes information on road closures, planned construction or repair work, diversions, rallies, and major public events. The updates will appear on the app, enabling citizens to make timely route changes and avoid disruptions.

Police teams across districts have also been trained via a dedicated WhatsApp group on how to share field-level updates for continuous data improvement. The process of updating and syncing traffic information has already begun.
