Gujarat HC orders authorities to survey six Ahmedabad roads for encroachment post-Diwali

During the hearing of a contempt petition filed by advocate Amit Panchal in the Gujarat High Court regarding issues such as stray cattle menace, poor road conditions, illegal encroachments on public roads and footpaths, unauthorised parking, and traffic violations across the state, the court has issued directions.

The division bench of Justice A S Supehia and Justice L S Peerzada has instructed the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority to conduct a detailed post-Diwali survey on six major city roads.

The survey will focus on illegal encroachments, street vendors, food stalls, traffic congestion, unauthorised parking, and wrong-side driving, with a detailed report to be submitted to the high court.

The court also directed the state government and municipal authorities to continue strict enforcement against illegal encroachments, wrong-side driving, and traffic violations even during the festive season.

The specified six roads include SG Highway, CG Road, the stretch from Judges Bungalow-Navrangpura Crossroads to the High Court complex, and the road from Wadaj Circle to Delhi Darwaja (Dudheshwar Road).

The Legal Services Authority has been asked to prepare a report on the current status of encroachments, unauthorised parking near shopping centers and party plots, and violations such as lane indiscipline, and submit it before the court.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for November 12.
