Self-styled preacher Asaram Bapu’s son Narayan Sai, who has been in Surat jail in connection with a rape case, has been granted five days interim bail by Gujarat High Court after 11 years.
The bail was granted to allow him to visit his ailing father. However, the High Court has clearly stated that all expenses related to the police escort and other arrangements must be borne by Sai himself.
Earlier, in October 2024, the high court had granted Sai just four hours of bail to meet his father and had directed him to deposit ₹5 lakh with the state treasury to cover related expenses.
The Gujarat HC also clarified that the five-day bail period would be counted from the date of the court order. In his bail plea, Sai mentioned that his father, Asaram, was discharged from hospital on June 18 due to heart-related and other illnesses, and was expected to reach Jodhpur the same day.
Therefore, he sought seven days of interim bail to inquire about his father’s health and spend time with him. Sai also assured the court that he would bear all costs, including that of police escort.
However, the government strongly opposed the bail plea, expressing serious concern over the potential consequences and risks of releasing Narayan Sai.
The prosecution also pointed out Sai’s past conduct, where he allegedly tampered with documents and misled the court to obtain temporary bail.
Despite these objections, after hearing all parties involved, the court granted Sai five days of interim bail.
